According to a new report from Fox News, there are some illegal migrants in the city of New York who are beginning to have mixed feelings about the situation that has been going on for quite some time in the area. An article from the New York Times said that a few of the 55,000 migrants who are currently sheltering in NYC, living in converted hotels, office buildings and tent dormitories constructed at Floyd Bennett Field are feeling a bit of guilt over the fiasco.
One such individual is Ingrid Henao, a mother from Colombia who is staying at the Watson hotel, who said she’s beginning to feel bad about living off the dime of the American taxpayer. Honestly, they all should be feeling this way. Illegal migrants essentially entered a home through the back window without the permission of the homeowner and raided his fridge. Pretty sure just about every human on the planet would consider such behavior the very epitome of rudeness.
“We’re getting spoiled,” Henao confessed. “This was never my idea. I didn’t leave my country under the conditions we fled for this.”
The question then becomes why Henao left and entered the country illegally to begin with? And if she’s feeling guilty, is she rejecting the help? I would venture to say obviously not. The report goes on to detail how a number of these migrants are scared that they will end up being targets for raids under the Trump administration. Reasonable fear I would say. And to be fair, they should be targets for the deportation operation. Without having gone through the proper channels, they aren’t supposed to be here. Thus, they should be sent home. Pretty simple.
“People are desperate to get out,” Nicolaza Criollo said to the New York Times.
The NYT reported more than 225,000 migrants have come into the city since 2022, costing New York City more than $6 billion to house them. However, the NYT appeared to downplay criticism of the migrant crisis. “Despite critics who blamed migrants for draining public resources, over half of the migrants the city has sheltered since early 2022 have exited the system, and the number entering has been in decline,” it wrote.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has seemed more open to collaborating with incoming Trump border czar Tom Homan to begin deporting illegal immigrants. Homan told Sean Hannity earlier this month that he had already spoken with Adams about potential strategies.
“He really cares about public safety, and he’s putting politics aside. He wants to help ICE take criminal threats off the street. He wants to help ICE look for national security threats. He wants to help ICE find over 340,000 missing children, which many are going to be in the city. So a great meeting,” Homan added in conclusion.
