Most of the so-called “late night comedians” who host talk shows in the evening hours are unfunny hacks who are slanted so far to the left it’s like they’re trying to do an impression of Michael Jackson in the video for “Smooth Criminal.” All they do is rehash the same material over and over again, making fun of former President Donald Trump and his supporters. They often pick up false narratives from the media and push those during their lame monologues, which are always uninspired drivel.
But not all of them are this way. Jon Stewart, host of “The Daily Show,” while a raging liberal, has his moments when he is legitimately funny. And he’s not afraid to poke fun of his own side of the aisle, which is a rarity among today’s comedians who function more like sycophants and “yes men” for the Democratic Party than funny folk.
A great example of this comes from a clip taken from a recent episode of the program where Steward mocks liberal mainstream media outlets for doing a little clutching of the pearls over a post that was shared by the former president.

Is it possible we are seeing a resurgence of actual *gasp* comedy coming back to the world of satire? Perish the thought! I guarantee you Stewart is getting ripped apart by his buddies within the progressive realm. They are humorless. It’s sad.
“That’s the first time I’ve laughed at Jon Stewart in…so long, I don’t even remember! And that was FUNNY!” X user Stacey Cooper said about the clip.

Another user responded to Cooper by saying, “Same here. Laughed out loud. Those anchors though OMG so dramatic.”

“Reminiscent of when Jon Stewart was actually funny on the Daily Show,” another user went on to say.

A user who goes by “Michael” pointed out the similarities between Stewart and fellow late night show host Bill Maher.
“I put Stewart in the same catagory as Bill Maher. They certainly lean well to the left but they aren’t afraid to call out ridiculousness when they see it. Stewarts work for 9/11 First Responders and their families gives him the benafit of the doubt with me,” he said in his post.

I’d have to agree with the comparison to Bill Maher. Both of these gentlemen hold political positions that are repugnant and appalling, but they also aren’t afraid to hold the feet of those on their own side to the fire for being hypocrites and doing the exact same things they criticize the right for. It’s a refreshing take.
Once upon a time, that used to be the norm. No side of the political realm was safe. We were all cynical Gen Xers that didn’t trust anyone in positions of authority. We certainly didn’t have favorite politicians that we would rock merchandise from. We’ve built fan culture around political figures, which is bizarre for a people who once espoused distrust of governmental authority as a basic tenet for being a legitimate American.
Maybe one day we’ll return to that way of thinking and that will help us all to become more unified? Wishful thinking probably.
