Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz has officially tendered his resignation from Congress, which goes into effect immediately, after President-elect Donald Trump announced he would be nominating him to serve as the new Attorney General. Boy, you just know the establishment hacks in the House and Senate are throwing major fits about a MAGA congressman being nominated for such a high position. However, they cannot be nearly as upset about as the liberals who know that they are going to be investigated very, very soon.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, announced during a press conference that Gaetz “issued his resignation letter effective immediately.” He then said that House GOP leadership was stunned by the news.
“I asked him what the reasoning was, and he said, ‘Well, you can’t have too many absences,’” Johnson explained. “So under Florida State law, there’s about an eight week period to select and fill in a vacant seat.” The speaker said he had already called Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in order to begin the clock on finding a replacement for Gaetz.
“If we start the clock now, if you do the math, we may be able to fill that seat as early as January 3, when we take the new oath of office for the new Congress,” Johnson stated. “So Matt would have done us a great service by making that decision as he did on the fly, and so we’re grateful for that.”

Trump officially nominated Gaetz, who is one of his most hardcore supporters and defenders, on Wednesday to serve as the next attorney general.
“Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice,” Trump said in a post on social media.
The president-elect said that bringing the weaponization of the justice system to an end is one of the top priorities for his new administration, going on to add that Gaetz would be focused on that issue along with prosecuting members of drug cartels.
“On the House Judiciary Committee, which performs oversight of DOJ, Matt played a key role in defeating the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and exposing alarming and systemic Government Corruption and Weaponization,” Trump explained.
“Matt will root out the systemic corruption at DOJ, and return the Department to its true mission of fighting Crime, and upholding our Democracy and Constitution,” he continued. “We must have Honesty, Integrity, and Transparency at DOJ. Under Matt’s leadership, all Americans will be proud of the Department of Justice once again.”
Gaetz responded to the news of the nomination on X, saying, “It will be an honor to serve as President Trump’s Attorney General.”
