NOTE: The following article is satire, not a statement of fact. Treat it as such.
Top Gun: Maverick did quite well in theaters in 2022 despite much of what’s pushed out by Hollywood flopping as of late, with that box office success thanks almost entirely to the movie’s lack of wokeness and promotion instead of traditional American values. That was noted by Breitbart, which, reporting on the success of Top Gun: Maverick in theaters and how it was devoid of the “woke sermonizing” that ruins most movies, noted that:
“Top Gun: Maverick was an unqualified popular and critical success, earning $1.49 billion at the global box office and nearly unanimous praise from critics. The Paramount release notably avoided the woke sermonizing and left-wing preaching that have become commonplace in Hollywood movies, proving that audiences still crave the kind of straightforward entertainment.”
Further, the surprisingly patriotic film was not shown in Russia or Red China, so its box office success came purely from America and friendly nations, which is rare for a Hollywood which has increasingly leaned toward appeasing Red China to gain access to its large market. In fact, its success with that audience was so large that it is the top-grossing film of Cruise’s career.
But Hollywood shows no desire whatsoever to learn from that success of Top Gun: Maverick. Instead of realizing that it did well because the film was about patriotism, being the best, and a country and military that prizes service and talent over skin color, the Hollywood executives thought that having a few token minorities and female pilots was the reason the film succeeded.
And so they have announced that Top Gun III will feature a cast of entirely female (some of whom are transgender) “pilots of color.” Early creatives from the film show that more than half of the pilots are black and about 1/3 are transgender.
That’s despite the film ostensibly being about the Naval Air Service’s “Top Gun” program, which collects and trains the best pilots from across the fleet. Only a few of the pilots who attend the program each year are black or female and even fewer of those graduate, so having a Top Gun class for the film composed entirely of minorities makes no sense from the perspective of reality. But when was reality ever something that constrained the left?
In any case, audiences are already quite negative about the film, with the short trailer released on YouTube receiving only 17,000 likes and 5 million downvotes. So maybe Hollywood will learn its financial lesson.
