If liberty in America is to survive, it’s not just that patriotic Americans must stand up for what they believe in and keep resisting the gradual, creeping approach of tyranny. Chopping off the branches of that evil, pernicious force is great, but far from enough.
No, America needs the big guns back on its side: it needs the corporations that produce what is seen by many around the world as American culture. Like Big Business or hate it, and there are many arguments on both sides, America largely won the Cold War because of the economic miracle created by its factories and the enviable cultural content created by its companies like Levi’s, singers like Springsteen, and studios in Hollywood.
One such content creation company that creates a major part of what is regarded as American culture is Disney. Its creations, from Mickey Mouse to Snow White, Disney World to Cinderalla, created many of the movies, characters, and even theme parks that come to mind when one thinks of American culture.
But now it’s standing against liberty: it’s standing on the side of wokeness and the CCP out of greed and cowardice. Unwilling to stand up to either group of communists and too greedy to risk profit margins by growing a pair and producing pro-American content, Disney has slipped toward the dark side.
Well, while many have just ignored that and pretended that Disney is still all-American, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is calling out the company for its perfidy and hypocritical acceptance of CCP tyranny. Blasting the company in a recent statement, DeSantis’ spokeswoman, Christina Pushaw, said:
“Disney has actively endorsed the CCP’s mistreatment of ethnic and religious minorities. Disney’s live-action film Mulan (2020) was filmed in Xinjiang, with Uyghur internment camps edited out of the background. Disney actually thanked Xinjiang CCP officials (the same communists forcing Uyghurs into gulags) in the credits of the movie.”
Pushaw hit Disney again, saying:
“Corporations do not have veto power over bills passed by Florida’s duly elected legislature. ‘Woke’ virtue-signaling is empty and meaningless, particularly from companies that bow down before a brutal communist regime so they can line their pockets with money from China.”
DeSantis too slammed the woke company for its refusal to condemn Red China, saying:
“You have companies, like a Disney, that are going to say and criticize parents rights – they’re going to criticize the fact that we don’t want transgenderism in kindergarten and first grade classrooms, and that’s the hill they’re going to die on. Then how do they possibly explain lining their pockets with their relationship from the Communist Party of China?
“Because that’s what they do, and they make a fortune and they don’t say a word about the really brutal practices that you see over there at the hands of the CCP.”
Disney has not defended itself despite those blistering attacks. Hopefully the attacks will serve as a wake-up call and shake the company back into being pro-American rather than pro-Red China.
