NOTE: The following article is satire, not a statement of fact. Treat it as such.
Fox News, now that it has gotten rid of Tucker, has gone full liberal on the gun control issue, as shown when it recently tried to get Texas Gov. Abbot to support gun control, with host Shannon Bream pointing to a poll about gun control proposals and saying “all of those score at more than 80 percent.”
Continuing, she asked, “Are there things that you would consider in Texas, or that you think Congress should consider at a federal level along those lines?”
Predictably, Abbott tried to dodge taking either a conservative stance or going full on liberal, saying, “We need to recognize a reality. What we have seen across the United States over the past year or two, and that is, an increased number of shootings in both red states and blue states. We have seen an increased number of shootings in states with easy gun laws as well as states with very strict gun laws. I think that the state in which the largest number of victims have occurred this year is in California, where they have very tough gun laws, where 11 people died. So one thing we can observe very easily, and that is there has been a dramatic increase in the anger and violence that’s taking place in America. And what Texas is doing in a big-time way, we are working to address the anger and violence by going to its root cause, which is undressing the mental health problems behind it.”
That wasn’t good enough for Bream. Losing her cool and sounding just like a Democrat, she said, “Look, governor, that just isn’t good enough. We need to do something about this. We need to fight gun violence. We need to fight back against these horrific shootings. Do you not agree? Do you want people to die because of gun violence? Why are you killing kids?”
Abbott was taken aback by that. Responding, he said, “Look, Shannon, I hate needless death as much as the next guy. I’m no murderer. But the 2nd Amendment is very clear. ‘Shall not be infringed’ leaves no room for debate, at least for law abiding citizens. So I’d appreciate if you read the Constitution at least once before attacking me for defending the system of governance that I pledged to protect.”
“I disagree,” Bream snapped. “Look, look. The founders didn’t think things would be this bad. They couldn’t have predicted these shootings. How could they have known about this? So we need to get rid of killers. We need to fight back against gun violence and prevent future casualties, even if the 2nd Amendment is itself a casualty of our fight against gun violence and for freedom from being murdered.”
Abbott, furious, said that he would never be watching Fox News again and immediately logged off.
